It was reported last year that Terence Winter (The Wolf of Wall Street, The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire) was writing an Untitled Mike Tyson Movie for Jamie Foxx. Many were hoping for an unflinching look at the controversial life of Tyson. Those hopes may be answered because now the great Martin Scorsese has come on board to direct and the last time Scorsese took on a sports movie was in 1980 with Raging Bull (pictured above). So yes, this is great news.
Foxx told Power 105’s The Breakfast Club:
“I just went in with Paramount with Mike Tyson. So I’m going to do the Mike Tyson story. Listen, to be in the same room pitching Mike Tyson to Paramount, Mike Tyson is on one side, I’m on the other side and doing Mike Tyson at the same time. And Martin Scorsese at the helm. This will be the first boxing movie that Martin Scorsese has done since Raging Bull.” (via Uproxx)
That sounds like a likely story considering Foxx is a high profile name these days, why would he talk like that if it wasn’t true? There hasn’t been an official announcement yet, but if you want to get out your copy of Raging Bull to celebrate another sure-to-be Scorsese classic, you go right ahead. We will keep you posted.
